Pesticide License Renewal

If you have a Registered Technician or Commercial Applicator certificate, your certificate should expire June 30, 2003 or June 30, 2004.  If it expires in 2003, the Office of Pesticide Services sent you a renewal notice in April.  Have you received yours? If you haven’t notified the OPS of a recent address change, your renewal may not reach you.  You’re responsible for keeping your records current.

Sign your renewal application, make any corrections in the information, and return it with a check for the required fee as soon as possible.  Avoid late charges, or the risk of getting caught working with an expired certificate.

Do you still need to attend a class to recertify? Over 25 commercial turf and ornamental classes were held in and around Virginia this past winter.  Your “last chance” to attend one may require some travel. To locate what classes are still available, call the OPS at the number below or check on the Web at www.vdacs.state.va.us/pesticides/categories.html

New manuals and exams in the works: If you or your employees are preparing for commercial certification, make sure you have the appropriate manuals:

In March 2002 the new Ornamental Pest Control manual became the official applicator certification manuals for Category 3-A. Publication #456-223 costs $12.00 and is available from the Virginia Tech Publications Distribution Center.

The 1979 manual Ornamental and Turf Pest Control remains the study manual for Category 3-B, Turf Pest Control, until later in 2003. A new Turf Pest Control manual has been completed, and will be released as soon as a new 3-B certification exam is available.

A new Right of Way Pest Control (Category 6) manual and exam are also on the way in 2003.
